Using Routes On Your Device

Most GPS devices designed for outdoor sport and navigation can use GPX files.

The useful thing about GPX files is that different brands of device, with different maps loaded, can usually all use the same route file.

There are many devices and lots of ways to get the route onto them — by computer, USB cable, mobile phone or app. The links below should help with the most common options.

If your device is not listed, you may need to search for the instructions for your specific model, as there are too many devices for us to cover every one.

GPS

Global Positioning System — the technology used to track your location.

GPX

GPS Exchange Format — the file type used to store and share route data.

RWGPS

Ride with GPS — the route platform we use for downloads and navigation.

Phone

You can follow routes directly from your phone if needed.

Komoot

You can import a GPX file into Komoot from desktop or mobile and then use it for navigation.

Importing a GPX file:
  • Go to Profile → Planned Tours or Tours.
  • Select Import GPX file.
  • Upload your .gpx file.

Komoot will convert it into a route or tour you can save and navigate.

Further information from Komoot is available here .

Following Routes From Your Phone

You do not need a navigation device — you can follow the routes directly from your phone.

During your event, you can go to your event webpage at ukvelo.co.uk and click the RWGPS button. From there you can find your location and follow the route.

This is especially useful if you get lost or do not have a navigation device with you.

We recommend downloading the RWGPS app before event day so you can follow the route on your phone if needed.
