Essential Equipment For Event Day

Bringing the right equipment can make a big difference to how much you enjoy your ride.

We can offer guidance on what to carry, but the final decision is yours. Being prepared for the unexpected can save time, reduce stress and help keep your ride running smoothly.

Mechanics may be available on the course, but you should still carry the basic items needed to look after yourself between feed stations and support points.

Hydration

Carry two filled bottles so you can ride comfortably between feed stations.

Punctures

Carry tubes, tyre levers and a pump or gas inflator.

Weather

A lightweight waterproof can make a big difference if the weather changes.

Navigation

Bring a navigation device and a charged phone for support if needed.

The Basics

A simple checklist for every rider.

What Should I Carry?

  • Two drink bottles, at least 500ml each, filled before you start.
  • Puncture repair kit, including tyre levers, two inner tubes and a pump or gas inflator.
  • Lightweight waterproof jacket, and possibly arm warmers or leg warmers.
  • Navigation device and a charged mobile phone.
  • Energy bars, gels, bananas or another simple food source to avoid bonking.

Why It Matters

Support vehicles may be on the course, but they could be dealing with other riders or more complex mechanical issues.

The quickest way to get moving again after a simple puncture is to repair it yourself.

Remember: being prepared keeps your day smoother, safer and more enjoyable.
Drink Bottles

Cycling causes fluid loss through sweating. If you do not replace fluid, dehydration can affect your performance and enjoyment.

Carry two bottles with your normal drink or energy source. Do not try anything new on event day.

Puncture Repair Items

Waiting for a support vehicle after a puncture can be frustrating and time-consuming.

Carry two inner tubes, tyre levers and either a pump or gas inflator so you can get back on the road quickly.

Lightweight Waterproof Jacket

It rains in the UK, even during summer. A lightweight waterproof jacket gives you protection against unexpected showers and cooler conditions.

Navigation & Phone

Occasionally signs can be moved or removed. A navigation device can help you stay on route.

A charged phone is also important so you can call the support number if you need assistance.

Energy Bars Or Nutrition

Bringing extra food to avoid the dreaded bonk is a no-brainer. Feed stations are available, but they are designed for quick top-ups. Planning ahead and packing your own snacks will help you have a smoother and more enjoyable event.
